Now, who doesn’t love a good nap time? Bedtime is a vital part of a person’s day and it is important that it is relaxing. In my classroom when it comes to nap time, I make sure to set up the room so that it is relaxing and calm. Every child gets their own cot and blanket, and a stuffed animal if they bring one. There is calm music playing and the room is dark, with some light in the classroom. If children need their back rubbed, I make sure to rub their back and relax them. The children have a routine and they are ready for nap when it comes, but occasionally there are children who do not want to nap because they have so much energy. It is important for me to help those children relax and prepare to sleep. Most of the children have fallen asleep within thirty minutes of nap starting, but they all wake up on their own time when they are ready. When they wake up before nap time is officially over I make sure to provide them with a quiet activity so that they do not wake up the other children but they also are able to do something while waiting. Some children need to be woken up on their own, we have to be kind and gentle when waking them up so that they do not wake up in a bad mood or upset. Every child gets a nice hug when they wake up to make sure that they start it off by being in a good mood.

Honestly, I am not a healthy eater at all. I order out more than I make my own food, because I find it much easier and less time consuming. Despite this, I know that nutrition is very important for us. When I am around children, I do my best to demonstrate healthy eating. In order to demonstrate healthy eating for students, I make sure I do not bring “junk” food into the classroom, and if I am not drinking something nutritionist, I put it in a cup that the children can not see and let them know that what I am drinking is water. That way even if I am drinking pop or coffee, the children think I am drinking water. When it comes to meal times, I will sit with them and model healthy eating to them in order to help encourage them to also eat the healthy food. While sitting with them for breakfast, lunch, or snack I talk to them about their day, or what they did over the weekend, or even about what we are eating. Meal time is always a chaotic time of day, before and after, but during the meal they are calm and sit for a long period of time.

I find that diaper time is a crucial time in creating relationships with children. This is one of the only times in the day that you can have one-on-one time with a child. When changing diapers, you can create conversations with the child, sing with the child, or even make funny faces and make them laugh. This is bonding time that you can not get back. When it comes to potty training and a child has accidents, it is bound to happen. I acknowledge that it happens, but I do not make a big deal out of it. I tell them it is okay and accidents happen, now we have to clean it up. My priority is making sure that the child is clean and comfortable. I want to make sure that children feel comfortable and that they are doing a good job by trying. I want to find a way to communicate with the child and make sure that they are able to get to the bathroom at an appropriate time. Teaching the child about their bodies helps them better understand the process of potty training and that they are learning and it is important.

When it comes to being a teacher, the relationships that you create with the children are essential. I always make it know that I want to provide my students with the best opportunities, and that starts by building trust with my students. When I work with my Infants and Toddlers, I make sure that I always comfort them and I make it a point to make meal times and diaper changing times very personal and give the children the one on one attention that they need. When I have students participate in new activities, I make it a point to have meaningful conversations with them, whether they can talk back or not. When the children do attempt to talk back, I make sure that I continue the conversation with them the same way I would talk to another adult. When I can tell that a student is sad, mad, happy or excited, I point out their emotions and talk to them about their emotions. When upset, I make sure that I talk them through it and help comfort them to make them feel better. Ultimately, I want to make sure that the students have good days everyday and that they feel safe when they are with me.

My Second Day of Field Experience 2

My second day of field experience 2 was a lot better than my first. I was able to see the children in their original classroom and watch their routine. Since they have to move back and forth from their classroom and the school age classroom, the schedule can get thrown off when they are in the school age classroom so I was grateful for this. Ms. Brenda is a great teacher and you can tell she really cares about her students and their wellbeing. The day started off with free play until they had breakfast at 9:15. Once they finished breakfast they went to the carpet for circle time and Ms. Brenda had them start by dancing to help get their jitters out. Afterwards, she asked the children their question for the day, which was “How can we start our day?”. The children gave different answers and she wrote them down. After that, she read a book to them about how a family starts their days. Once she was done with circle time, they went to the sensory table where they did an experiment together. This was so much fun and the kids loved it so much. After that, she had the children do centers, where I sat with a group and we practiced drawing shapes. After this, we all went to the gym and played “Duck, Duck, Goose” until I had to leave. It was a successful day and I am excited about what else I can learn from Ms. Brenda.

My First Day in Field Experience

My first day of field experience was in the Pre-K classroom, the Rainbow room. The classroom has 13 children enrolled with two teachers. During this time, the class was not in their original classroom so their wasn’t a really great schedule going on and their was a lot of chaos. Despite this, the teacher was very positive and tried her best to keep the class under a routine. I had a great time learning more about the students in the classroom and the curriculum that they use. It seems that it is a great program so far and I am really excited to see more in the classroom and gain more experience.

Using social media

When trying to advertise your own blog, using social media can be an important thing to use. There is a huge reach on social media platforms that allow you to come in contact with many people. If you want to market your blog and want to share it with others, you can post it on your social media platforms to try and share it with everyone that you know in one step.

If there is something that you find important and you want to share it, do not hesitate to try and do so!

Pixabay and why to love it

If you are like me you thought that any Google Image could be used as long as you were creating something for your classroom. This actually is NOT true!

The Copyright law and Fair Use confusing, it seems that the easiest decision would be to use a website that is full of free pictures that can be used.

That is why you should love Pixabay!

Pixabay is so easy to use and you can always find a great image to use for whatever you may need.

When using Pixabay, just type in the type of picture you are looking for, choose that picture and insert it and you are all set!

Importance of Early Education

Something that I have always found interesting was how our childhood effects the rest of our lives. Education is always changing and starting earlier in life. The interesting fact is that early education is not typically offered in the public school districts.

Steve Zwolak explains in great detail the importance of what happens early in life and how it can effect a person for the rest of their lives.
